Experience usability testing ahead of product launch

Nuance Audio

Case Study

BACKGROUND

Nuance Audio developed the first of its kind hearing glasses. The product offers personalized amplification for people suffering from mild to moderate hearing loss. The glasses offer similar functionality to a hearing aid, but in a discreet form factor.

Some of the product’s features can be controlled directly from the glasses using subtle buttons and gestures. Feedback on those actions is both tactile and auditory through audio prompts.

As the Nuance product team was getting ready to launch the product and finalize both hardware and firmware design, they reached out to us to validate the usability of their latest product version.

NEED

The product, design and UX teams wished to confirm that A. the product is usable enough, and B. to find out which variations of various designs work best.

METHODOLOGY

First, Context worked with the client’s team to design the usability criteria and success metrics. After that, Context designed a unique usability methodology that enabled testing multiple design variations while reducing user bias. Additionally, extreme users were recruited in order to pressure test the design.

DELIVERABLE

Due to the upcoming launch, the deliverable was designed for quick decision making. This meant focusing mostly on usability bottom lines. Additionally, Context provided the client with a more detailed report that outlines the key usability areas that need improvement.

OUTCOMES

The product, design and UX teams quickly made decisions on which design variation to implement at scale, and were able to simply fix minor usability issues to make the product “fool proof”.

“Thank you Context team for the hard work and the great presentation of the results!”
